Just a couple of notes here. First this is the first of only a couple times we will see Melchizedek come up in the bible. Melchizedek was the first priest to God. I know many will say “well what about Abraham”…..if you think about it, you will see why.  Melchizedek blessed Abraham, Abraham, offered a tenth to Melchizedek. This shows that Abraham was subservient to him. Also Christ was said to be the most high priest in the order of Melchizedek. Since we know that Christ’s priesthood superceded any other before him, and that in psalm 110, and Hebrews it is said that his priesthood comes in the order of Melchizedek; then it only follows that Melchizedek was the first high priest to God.

 

If you have some time look up Melchizedek. For a person only mentioned a few times in the bible, there is much to read about him.
